Most of you have probably met Kristi. Kristi is not only the owner of our studios, but she also teaches classes, too (and a whole lot of ‘em!). Read on to get to know a little more about our fearless leader.
Tell us a little about your Pilates background? How did you get into it?
I started taking traditional Pilates about 15 years ago and after a few years I found Sebestien’s Pilates Plus in West Hollywood. I instantly fell in love with the workout. In 2005, Sebastien’s studio became celebrity central and he decided it was time to create his own machine (known as the proformer). The method was growing fast, and I was one of the first to open a Lagree Fitness studio.
What prompted you to open up your own studios?
I was always a fan of the boutique vibe of a small studio and the relationships that evolved from it. Plus, I believed in the method and loved the results so much, I knew this workout sold itself. I opened my first studio in 2006 and the rest is history.
How have you seen them grow so far?
Today, there are over 300 Lagree fitness studios in the world and they’re still growing!
Favorite Pilates move?
Right now I’m loving super lunge. It’s a super-efficient move and incorporates all of the Lagree Fitness elements (strength, endurance, flexibility, core balance and cardio).
Most effective stretch after a long Pilates class?
Leg circles! They not only strengthen but they stretch, too!
What has been your proudest moment so far?
The personal relationships I have built with clients are by far the best part of being a studio owner. I love witnessing clients’ transformations and watching them build a brand-new self confidence through this method.
What are some struggles you’ve faced as a fitness studio owner?
Finding the balance of being a boss and friend at the same time. There is also the challenge of maintaining integrity to the Lagree method, keeping my trainers motivated, and of course, making sure the workout is top-notch.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?
I honestly have no clue! I love what I do so much. I’m also a certified yoga instructor and am an avid Core Power devotee.
What do you look for in a new instructor?
When I’m looking for a new instructor, I want to see passion and desire to grow and learn. I care less about a fitness background because that can always be learned.
What do you love most about Lagree Fitness?
I love how Sebastien continues to grow this method and revive the machines. He literally changes them up every 5 years, which is incredible. You never know what you’re going to get.
What’s next for Pilates Plus by Lagree Fitness?
I definitely plan on opening a few more studios. The next one may be in North Hollywood, but not for awhile. Stay tuned!
