If you’re anything like us, you made a New Year’s resolution for 2018…and already broke it – ugh. We get it – whether it’s incorporating a super-clean diet into your life, or hitting that Lagree class 6 days a week, resolutions are hard to keep. That said, it’s a proven fact that sticking with your resolutions will not only make you feel better, but ensure you have a better year, too. So why not try and make this year your best yet?

 

Read on for 8 tips on making your New Year’s resolutions stick.

 

PLAN, PLAN, PLAN

If your resolution involves some strategic planning, make sure to honor that. If your goal is to make it to more workout classes, carve out time in your schedule and put your classes in your calendar – signing up ahead of time will keep you accountable. If eating healthy is your goal, meal prep – there’s nothing easier and more seamless than opening your fridge and grabbing something easy, premade, and of course, healthy.

 

BE REAL WITH YOURSELF

If your goal is something like never eating cheese again when cheese is your favorite snack in the world, it just won’t work. Try limiting your cheese intake to start instead of cutting it out completely.

 

TALK IT OUT

Don’t keep your resolutions to yourself. Instead, talk about your goals and hopes for the new year with your friends and significant other. They’ll not only help hold you accountable, but maybe they’ll join you on your resolution journey, too.

 

REWARD YOURSELF

Celebrate your successes with something special! If you’ve gone a whole week with sticking to your new diet or working out a ton, pick up a new outfit, that lipstick you’ve been eyeing, or a new stylish pair of workout pants.

 

DON’T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF

If you make a mistake, move on. Obsessing over every little thing will not only push you away from achieving your goal, but it’ll bruise your ego, too (and there’s nothing worse than that, right?!).

 

STICK IT OUT

As you probably have already heard, most studies show that it takes about 21 days for a new activity to actually become a habit and around 6 months for it to actually become a part of your life. That said, be patient – these things don’t happen overnight.

 

WRITE IT DOWN

Writing out your goals for the new year is the best way to hold yourself accountable. We love the idea of writing a resolution out on a piece of paper and sticking it on the fridge – that way you’ll see it (and be reminded of it) every morning.

 

TIME IT OUT

It’s been said that habits stick more quickly in the morning than the evenings. Why, you ask? It supposedly has something to do with the levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is highest when we wake up. That said, we recommend planning to complete your resolution in the morning rather than the evening for the ultimate success.
